If a person isn't willing to get help, or help themselves, then we can't help them ,if you go the extra mile so will the counselors!!

Are you willing to go to the end to get a person out of the hell he has been in?
When you are a counselor you have to really dig deep, feel deep, know deep, so if your level is not deep enough to help someone you need more work and experience.... If you are not willing to go the second mile with someone you promised for a mile, then your dedication is not enough to help someone who is a dependent on drugs... I tell you it is a very tough job... If you want to go to the end and beyond... then you will help your clients effectively and with conviction. ;-)

Counselors are trained to guide and advise but not to instruct their "patients" what to do. These are among their code of ethics. For example, in a divoice case, they can discuss the possibilities of the outcome of the proceedings but they are not allowed tell the patient which steps to take. They can only help them to weigh the pros and cons. That is to prevent being held responsible should the steps they take has adverse effects. So, what your quote actually means is that they are actually ethically allowed to guide their clients up to a certain extend. As for chemical dependency, I guess they mean that certain drugs are needed to reduce dependency on another drug but the dosage is considered a risk at a certain level and they would not commit themselves to overprescribe that limit. Hope that helps.

you can only take a person as far as you have gone. No further. if i am teaching a philosophy that I have found in a book, but I have only read 30% of it, how can I take my client to the end of the book. i can't because I do not even know what lies there.
