Using symbols eh.... mathematically it is called Algebraic Expression... ok lets do this word by word ( for you to learn)

the word 'product' signifies a math method, and that is multiplication, thus it is multiplication that we will be using...

multiplication symbols vary from (x), or a dot (·) or by simply using parentheses on both numbers (or just the second number)

next the 'number' (9) and the variable (y).... variables are letters that represent any numbers.. any letters can be used as variables...

now the expression... n = 9(y) or n = 9 · y

as you can see, I didn't use (x) as a symbol for multiplication because it can be mistaken as a variable instead of a multiplication symbol....

as for the usage of (n) as the product variable.. it is recommended that you use (n) or (x) as an "answer variable" although any number can be used

FYI: the most common variables ( I dont know why they use this often).... a, b, c, f, h, n, p, r, x, y and z

Product means that 9 and y must be multiplied.
9 x y is written as 9y.
The general rule is expressed as:-
a x b = ab

Now you know that "the product" is the answer to a multiplication problem. So, you are also going to use parenthesis to organize what you need to do before you multiply. You should be able to read the mathematical sentence from right to left as "The product of u minus v and u plus v" (u - v) X (u+v) Or--you do not need to put the multiplication sign between the parenthesis. That automatically means multiplication. (u - v)(u + v)
