1. Rub the palette on the roof of your mouth with a toothbrush. This tends to aggrevate the frenic nerve and stops the hiccups.
2. Plug your nose and ears, close your eyes and hold your breath after taking a huge sip of water.
3. Try looking up
4. Eat a teaspoon of sugar
5. Try having someone scare the crap out of you
6. take your index finger and your thumb and try and bring them as close together as possible without letting them touch (I don't know why this technique works for me)
I know these are all common remedies, but they work best for me. Good luck.

I find the best way to get rid of one is to drink a few gulps of water, and quickly inhale, and old the air down. After about 5 seconds, start to "breath" without letting the air go...like, breathing the old air out and in again, keeping the "Exhaled" portion in your mouth to retain. Do this for about 10 seconds or so. Repeat if you require.

Hiccups is a result of your 'diafragma(Afrikaans)' that is out of sink. Take a breath as deep as you can and hold it for thirty seconds. Must take as deep as possible breath to force this organ against the rest to get it to move synchronously again.

I learned this from Sesame Street and it works every time for me and anyone else I've recommended it too. Drink water from the other side of the glass!!!
It's kind of tricky so make sure you are standing up when you are doing this. Lean forward, tilt the cup, and drink water from the other side of the glass. Good luck and don't make a mess.

THere is no real cure for them, but I swear by taking long deep breaths, holding for 30 seconds, and repeating until they're gone.
