I have no problem with sex. I have no problem talking about it or doing it. I have no problem with people having sex outside of a committed relationship.... but....Prostitution isn't good. Only certain people prostitue themselves. It's usually people who have issues. They have issues with self-esteem, relationships and etc. Some are desperate for money and/or don't have an education and see prostitution as a way of surviving or getting out of a situation. Whether they're on the street alone or at a place of business, they put themselves in danger by doing it. It is their choice. They may choose how far to go with something, but they still have issues and they are putting themselves at risk. I feel sorry for them.

It is wrong in so many ways, religion or not. It is debasement of women. A woman does this not because she love sex so much, she does it because she has no other skill that will make as much money, or she has no other way to make money, or is on drugs and needs a lot of money to cover her habit. It makes the man a pig, because he is using her for his own pleasure with no respect for her. Sex is an intimate, the most intimate act between two people. It was meant to be a loving bond between a man and woman that would bring a child into the world to be loved, and nurtured and raised in a loving family. Any other use of it is wrong and against nature. A man is more than his hormones. And at some point in his life, most men who use a prostitute will see the shame of the act and feel cheapened by it as well.

I've read lots of sociological articles on prostitution. Sadly many women are prostitutes as a last resort for money or drugs.
Of course there is the issue of selling your body for money and paying a woman just to get off but quite honestly, there are plenty of other unethical deeds I'm not comfortable with but mainly prostitution is an outcome of drugs, violent men, and poverty. That's the main reason why I think it's wrong.
Prostituion should be a sign to fix the bigger problem.
Other than that, it would be pointless of me to complain of cheaters and promiscuity. No matter what, there will be bad actions.

After Union General Hooker established a brothel in Nashville TN morale went up, STDs went down and rapes went down. Pretty forward thinking.
Now when stationed overseas (back in my day) troops called going to the legal brothels 'going down range'.
Another part of this early R&R program he is also saw to it his men had current books and periodicals.
Also in Nashville he set up a recruiting office for African Americans who later proved to be pivotal at the battle of Nashville.
Asside from recognising the obvious utility of women to the troops he is also credited with using the first female ARMY surgeon, Dr. Mary Walker who went on to earn the congressional medal of honor.
Lastly this forward thinker has saved countless soldiers lives over the years by establishing the first modern boot camp, Camp Robinson.
When I was stationed in Germany there was Crazy Sexy and Sauna 2000, two chain brothels where girls were checked frequently and licensed, often working their way through college.
In Amsterdam there is the redlight district where ladies display their wares in the windows.
Between two consenting adults I cant see the crime.
However there are some third world countries where a family will sell a son or daughter at a very young age so that their siblings may eat.
No matter what name you put on it that is a crime....Pedophelia

I'll agree that street walkers should be banned. But I know women (and a man) who work for "escort" agencies. it is not because they have no skills or qualifications, but the fact that they can make $2000 in one night. It is not degrading to women who make the choice. A reputable agency does not allow drug users, makes safe sex madatory, and the staff have to pass regular health checks. Not quite the den of STD's that some people believe. Everybody has sexual desires. Most people are lucky to find someone to express those desires, however, there are some who through looks, personality, experience etc. cannot form a relationship with another woman (or man). One friends of mine who works in the industry spends more time talking to her clients than anything else. Some people are just lonely, and want a bit of company.
Prostitution does not ruin marriages. There is a reason people go to a prostitute. They are not getting something at home. I'm not talking just about sex. It could be a bit of alone time, away from the family, maybe someone to listen to their ideas without "what do you want to do that for, we can't afford that" etc.
In Australia street walking is illegal, however "escort agencies" aka brothels are not.

Honestly? I think it's a matter of personal choice. I don't agree with it, because it creates issues with how people look at both relationships and sex itself. How many relationships will last untill marriage thesedays, without going to bed? Most people don't seem to even be bothered. It's so widely accepted in media that it's common place. Heck, sex ed in school!
Prostitution is just another way of inforcing sex as becoming an activity for fun. It's supposed to be a wonderful expression of love and an experience that means something.
However, if someone decides to give up that and go into that feild it's their choice. I won't think any less of them, because I'm not them. :) It's not my decision.

It should be legal in all the countries. Indeed, some girls love to have sex with as many partners as they can. Why not turning that into a job? Also, a lot of man are too lousy lovers to have a girlfriend and they'd be happy to pay for a night (more like 5 minutes) of carnal pleasure. It's another form of entertainment.
For the people who want to tell me that being a prostitute (a legal one) is degrading: how many people, who have morally correct jobs, do their jobs and like what they're doing? Being a prostitute who loves her job is better than a bank clerk who hates every day of his life.

Hello, I'm a muslim and i can tell you this for sure in the name of all muslims there is no doubt in our minds that commiting adultry is a great sin so naturally prostitution follows. Prostituition used to be common among arabs before islam and islam came and ended this revolting act of inhumanity. As for abuse it is also forbidden wehther its for wives, children or servants. It's even forbidden and is considered a great sin to abuse animals or kill them if it wasn't for a need. Our prophet Mohammed may peace be upon him told us the story of a lady who went to hell because she locked a cat up and forbid it from eating or drinking till it died. The same goes for plants too. Our prophet used to order troops going to war not to harm women , children, old men, or priests in their churches, and not to cut off trees unless it was necessary. I hope this answers your question. Peace

If legalizing and regulating it would get it off the street and make it safer and get the minors out of the business, it would be okay. As it is now, it is pretty sickening. There are a lot of drug addicts, nasty desperate women and ignorant young girls working for scumbag pimps. I'm tired of seeing them in my neighborhood and it seems to be impossible for the police to stop it.

Depends. If it were done in a licensed brothel or as a licensed escort, I have no problem as long as safe sex is practiced. The problem is streetwalkers being a nuisance. That should remain illegal.
Edit: Tania La Güera made a good point. Prostitution is not the problem. It is a symptom of a problem.
