You must only know stupid Americans. (Maybe your semi-literacy is a clue to the people you ask. For example, it is not "...now a dam thing....". It would be "...know a damn thing...." Also, Americans, Canada, and New York should be capitalized.)
If you are going to generalize about how dumb a whole nation's people are, perhaps you should do so in a literate manner.

I have to laugh, because I live near Ontario, CA, only I mean Ontario, California. Actually, I know a lot about Canada. I was in the eastern part twice: Montreal, Quebec, and Toronto. I love the CN Tower and the science museum. I was in Montreal in 1976, and toured the Expo center after the Olympics was over. Pretty cool.
I was sad to hear that the hotel at the top of the hill in Quebec had burned down about ten years ago. We stayed there.
My uncle worked for Boeing of Canada. They build helicopters.
I love Canadian things like Lynn Johnston cartoons and Fly Away Home and Paul Gross CD's and Spider Robinson books. OK, so he is from New York originally. His wife is Canadian, and he lives there mostly, and it shows in his writing. I love the people from Canada and how they all go to Miami in the winter.
Dorothy Gilman lives in Nova Scotia, and her book about moving there was a lovely story about the people she met. And Charles de Lindt is a national treasure, and you should clone him. If I thought there was really a place like his city in Canada, I'd be on the next plane...from Ontario airport.

You need to converse with other Americans. How many Americans have said this to you. I will concede that many Americans know very little about other countries. Here are some reasons this could be. Most people don't read newspapers. News is primarily domestic topics and most of what passes fro news is entertainment fluff crap. Because the standard of living is so high in the US in comparison to most people don't have the need to look outward. Trust me most Mexicans know a whole lot more about the US then Americans know about Mexico.
I have been to to Montreal several times and Toronto. Ive been to India, China, Thailand, Hong Kong, Spain, Sweden, Denmark, Italy, England and France. So be careful about generalizing. When you run into someone who doesn't know much about your country take the opportunity to teach them something about your country. Americans have many faults but ask any European and they will give us credit for being friendly.

rofl !! I did struggle with understanding the difference between a province and a territory and understanding the delegation of powers. But I have to admit that my school system didn't go into things in as much detail as they should have. It was just a chapter in a book. The news stations do not talk about things going on in canadian government very much either.
OK I'm sorry for being ignorant about Canada. I will mend my ways, ok?

Research finds that 40% of the people in the U.S. cannot point on a globe to where Canada is. If you think that's scary, 20% of the U.S. public school teachers couldn't point to Canada on a globe, either. It's not that they don't CARE. It's that they don't have a CLUE. Magical-thinking, remote controls and Bible-thumpin' conservative intolerance replaced brains here a long time ago. The U.S. ranks like 28th (!) in the developed world in math and science scores.

Seems you could use a lesson about proper spelling and capitalization, too. You have obviously only met the complete failures of the American education system. But you shouldn't tar everyone with the same brush just because you have only met the stupid ones.

How come Canadians don't know a damn thing about proper grammar or spelling? Anyway, we all know this is not a very good question and we can only hope it was asked by a young and immature Canadian.
