I am writing an essay about gun control, and I am stuck as to where to begin.

I am writing about how we don't need to change the gun control laws we have now, and how the laws we have now don't even work.

Please help!!

Read the exact text of the 2nd Amendment: it specifies the desire for a "well regulated militia".

Viriginia's gun laws, for example, do not lead to such.**

The right of any psycho, or even average and responsible ciizen, to bear arms, is not guaranteed by the 2nd Amendment. The capitalisations in the amendment as passed by the Senate, as compared with the original draft offerred by Congress,* are very interesting to nitpickers like myself and the Supreme Court.

One could easily suggest moreover that the number of guns, hand and long arm, already circulating in the US, along with the addtional 3or 4 million added per year, makes it impossible to realistically control guns in the US as such. Not without some generational changes after decisive legislational changes.

The second amendment to the constitution states:

"A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."

Research early colonial history. Why was it important for them to have a gun? Why is it just as important today? They needed to be ready in case they were called upon at any time to defend themselves.

This is an excellent quote to use.
"To preserve liberty, it is essential that the whole body of the people always possess arms, and be taught alike, especially when young, how to use them." (Richard Henry Lee, Virginia delegate to the Continental Congress, initiator of the Declaration of Independence, and member of the first Senate, which passed the Bill of Rights.)

Be sure to site the author. I don't know if you are familiar with the five paragraph essay or not, but there are "five" parts.

Opening Paragraph: List three main points you would like to focus on. Listing second most important first, least important and most important last (for the kicker). "Tell 'em what you're gonna tell 'em"

2nd Paragraph: Highlight 2nd most important point

3rd Paragraph: Least important point

4th Paragraph: Most important point

Closing Paragraph: Tell 'em what you just told 'em just in a little different way.

The source listed should be a great help to you.

The first paragraph includes the introduction and a thesis statement. The introduction should captivate the reader's attention and give an idea of the essay's focus. You may start your essay with an attention-getter such as a bit of fascinating information, captivating dialogue or an interesting fact.

Start with a few sentences that explain your topic in basic terms and lead into your thesis statement. Each sentence of your opening statement should become a bit more specific, until you reach the thesis statement.

The thesis statement tells the reader what the essay will be about and what points you will be making in your essay. Your thesis statement should state the subject of the essay, explain the point of view the essay will take or describe the ideas on your topic that you determined in your outline.

Start by citing the number and some examples of the current laws and how they are not working. Research and discuss the law that should have kept Cho from legally buying a gun and how the governor closed the loop hole. And yes no report would be complete if consideration were not paid to the illegal markets.

You may want to keep the current laws and add something I posted to another question for an idea for an opening.

I think weapons should be sold after an extensive background check paid by the person who wants to buy the weapon along with a 30 day waiting period. What's the hurry anyway? That's my take.
