Computer languages each have their strengths and weaknesses. The key is to find the right language for the task you are solving.
Common learning languages (at least 20 years ago) were Pascal and Fortron. Today I'd consider C/C++, Java, or .NET. I would tend to recommend against VB/VBA unless you only intend to do fairly light programming.

Start with Java.
Because Next generation tools and total Internet Programmes are based on JAVA.
see EAI Tools (Integration Tools) like TIBCo seebeyond , webmethonds , IBM webSphere is totally based on java.
