My oldest daughter heard what I was listening to "Now 24" and said "Dad you're pretty up on the haps in music!"
Should I feel like a 43 year old teenager or just laugh at myself because I listen to the same music?

Don't feel bad. I was jammin' to the Chicken Little soundtrack in a tent in Iraq, the kids nowhere in sight! Someone asked "did you get that for your kids" I look confused for a sec and then I got it and said "hell no! This is good!" We're not weird are we?

I think a better question would be: What happened to originality in the music industry? To me, everything sounds the same. Same beat, same lyrics. In the 70s and 80s, there was a greater variety of topics and styles in the music. Times have changed and this generation of teens seem to want a certain about of "dance" music. That's what's popular. That's what sells so that's what artists are making. It's like they don't have passion for music. They just want to make money or be famous. Our expectations are really high because of the artists that have been and set the trends. Today's artists fall short of the bar maybe because they lack the talent.

I have 3 kids ages 4, 7 and 10 (going on 20). I have no choice to listen to their music, especially with my 4 year old. My 10 year old listens to Hannah Montana, Ashley Tisdale and Ally and A.J. I enjoy that music too.

I discovered Ween thru my 23yr old and have bought three of their CDs,also burned her Phish stuff back when she was 17. Good music is good music no matter what! My kids listen to a lot of my old stuff from the 60s/70s,(I'm 55) and have exposed their friends to it...so we trade off! I think it's great!!!

Our kids range in age from 42 to 49. The grandkids from 14 to 25. They listen to
all kinds of things. Smooth jazz is just one of them.
