My wife just can't reverse park. She doesn't get it when I say "straighten up" and she always thinks she is MILES closer to the other cars than she really is. I just don't understand why it's so difficult for her!

Actually I think it can be explained by the different way men and women perceive their own space . Men have better spatial ability this is promoted by higher testosterone levels which give better long sight ( good for Hunting ) where as women Will say '' He cant even see something when its under his own nose '' theres some truth in that to.

I'm a woman and can back a boat into the water faster and better than any guy I've met. I also don't use the mirrors like you're "supposed" to, and I couldn't do it at all until I spent time at an empty boat dock for awhile and got the right "feel" for it. Perhaps your wife just needs to find her own technique with the mirrors, and have time to not feel pressured. Encourage her to practice in an empty parking lot. A lot of times it's the pressure or anxiety that messes people up and keeps them from developing a new skill. Your encouragement, even in little things, will really make her feel respected. You might even find her better than you in a short period of time.

Just because your wife has problems doing it, doesn't mean that ALL women do. I am FAR better at reversing and parking than my husband -- even he admits it.
Perhaps she can't do it because you tell her she can't. Have a WOMAN teach her how.

Because we're afraid of smashing the car and having to listen to ya'll yell at us and remind us about it for the next 50 yuears. If a man smashes the car, he's not afraid of his wife. (it was an accident, after all) Of course there will be no bringing it up ever again. (Man's law) So men just whip into the space without thinking about it.

My ex-girlfriend couldn't reverse park if her life depended on it. I can't drive well either but that's because I have bad spacial sense, maybe most women have the same problem.

honestly...i don't think that "women" in general have problems reverse parking their cars... every woman that i (myself included) know does just fine...so your wife just might be a little self cautious---she's worried about hitting another car--and she wants her parking to look superior...that's all. maybe you should set up some cones in a abandoned parking lot and let her practice to build up her confidence!!!

LMAO.....I know plenty of women who can't back a car up to save their lives.
My mother's insurance agent nick- named her "back up Queen" and that wasn't cause she was good at it!
I think it's a lack of confidence issue.

I have no problems...................... perhaps your wife is one of those who should never drive - there are many like that you know.........................
