My husband and I have been offered jobs in Florida and in different parts of Colorado. We live in NM which is a desert, always dry and with windy dust storms. My house is never clean due to the constant dust. Our allergies to the dust mites are getting worse and we are tired of the dirt roads and weeds. So we are ready to make a change.
We want to go somewhere green and beautiful. We all know that Florida is beautiful. We are being offered a job in a coastal city in Florida. It's a smaller city, but it is still near all the awesome attractions. However, there is the issue of the Hurricanes! In Colorado we are being offered positions in different areas of Colorado. I have been to some areas of Colorado and think that is a beautiful place. However, there is the issue of the cold and snow. I am a sissy when it comes to the cold. So if you were in my place, what would you prefer to risk, a hurricane or a snow storm that can cause blizzards and being covered up to 5 feet deep.

Colorado, hands down.

It's a big myth that Colorado is buried in snow all winter. It's totally not. Sometimes we get 60-degree days in January. When it does snow, it melts the next day, because the sun is so intense here. When we do get a big blizzard, it makes national news. That's because they're rare - usually one a year, if that. (We had a couple this year, but that was unusual.) And, when we do get a blizzard, we all get excited. It's fun! An adventure!

You didn't say WHERE in Colorado, but as long as you don't move INTO the mountains, the above advice is true. (I imagine Denver, Colo. Springs, Pueblo, Grand Junction, Fort Collins, Boulder, etc. are where the job offers are?) Certainly, the higher in elevation, (and closer to a ski resort) the more snow you're going to encounter.

I live in the Colorado Foothills, and the snow is sort of a non-issue.

Colorado for sure. Colorado was home to me for 17 beautiful years. Buy your house an air purifier to help control the dust and get a good Hepa vacuum. Not all parts are real cold. Getting a place with a fireplace can make you forget you hate the cold. As for Florida, it is pretty, but the Hurricane warnings for months on end made me wonder why I lived there with my kids. There are months in Florida where it rains every day real hard just after three o'clock, you could set your watch by it . I don't care for rain, myself, and it would come in downpours! I did have fun there but I hated the monthy insecticide treatments to my home. I keep a clean home but we always kept an eye open for cockroaches or those bugs that comeup through the water pipes, yuck ! If you like a tropical climate, you have to deal with this. I didn't like not being able to walk barefoot on my lawn in the summer because we were afraid of being bitten by fire ants nor did I like all the traffic. We moved back to Colorado after a few years and couldn't wait to get back ! I would take a snow storm over a hurricane anyday.

If the pay and benefits are equal I would choose Colorado. It seems like there are better job opportunities there. Florida is very high risk of Hurricanes and other natural disasters and you may have to rebuild every year. I also think it is better to be cold than hot, because you can always wear more clothings or coats. Colorado is closer to NM which I assume is where your family is from...? Not all parts of Colorado are horrible in the snow but the beauty is tough to beat.

Well I have lived in Florida, New Mexico only in the summer time, and Colorado Springs. If you think the dust is bad just wait till you hit the humidity of Florida Summers. I lived in Colorado Springs and because it is in a Valley the weather is different. It was not as cold as Maine is. I ended up coming back to Maine and plan to stay here. I hate the cold but I am a stay at home mom and just plain old stay at home human in the winter LOL. Colorado is absolutely beautiful.

colorado all the way. i can't stand humidity that florida has. i am also an avid snow skier and would be in complete heaven in the rockies.

I just really do not care for florida. i like my seasons, all four of them. and I am not really much of a beach type person. And if you don't like the dust in New Mexico, then you certainly won't like what happens with salt water and cars. I used to live in hawaii and salt air especially near the coast can be quite corrosive to cars and all things metal.

i would take a 20 feet deep blizzard any day of the week.

Colorado. Florida is the pinnacle of debauchery, especially along the coasts, during spring break and arguably the high point of the state. That is unless you still snuggle with your favorite Disney characters every night. Beyond that, every thing in Florida is seventy-five; average temperature, age and IQ. Colorado is awesome. Buy some warm clothes and hit those slopes all year round. Plus, you can puff on fat El's until you can't move.

Probably Colorado..but not in an area that gets tons of snow. I could be wrong, but i think the southwest and southeast areas dont get tons of snow.
I wouldnt want to live in Florida, its very humid. I was there in June..it was hot and humid, morning until evening. But yes, it is very pretty there.

I moved to Utah (similar climate to Colorado) thinking it would be interesting to have snowy winters, warm summers, seasons and a place to ski in winter. I moved away three years later, back to California, and I'll never put myself into another place with heavy snow in winter. Snow is pretty, and skiing is fun. But living in snow is a real drag. You spend lots of time and resources struggling with the weather. Do yourself a favor . . . don't. Go to Florida.

I would live in the Midwest in Indiana. either Indianapolis or in the hilly terrain of Southern Indiana in Nashville and the Hoosier national forest. Lowest taxed state in the midwest/Lowest cost of living of any Major US city *Indianapolis* and the nations most affordable housing market. Plus Lake Michigan is a great ocean substitute and Hoosier Hospitality cant be beat. Everyone is very friendly and open to others. Heck the midwest is well know for how civilized everyone is.
