Because, until fairly recently, to be a Jew was to be a part of an exclusive, separatist culture. This made other cultures feel uneasy due to their presumed inferiority versus "the Chosen People."
Assimilation is the key to peace and acceptance, not funny top hats and knotted strings dangling from suspect, black trousers. Hell, MY people stopped wearing kilts.

Blame it on generations of semi-illiterate parish priests who regularly preached sermons blaming Jews with the crucifixion of Christ, neatly ignoring the fact that it was a Roman soldier who drove in the nails, and ignoring the fact that Christ came to earth in order to die as a sacrifice for the atonement of our sins. Without the Crucifixion there would be no Resurrection. Without the Resurrection, there would be no Salvation. And without Salvation, there would be no Hope for mankind.
Therefore, instead of fire and brimstone sermons damning the "Jesus-Killing Jews" those priests should have been pointing out that Jews were the first people to enter into a covenant with God, and that the Jews played a part in God's plan for Christ.

Not all of us have given up the kilt. And there are probably as many, or more, Americans, English, Irish and Canadians wearing kilts on a daily basis as there are Scots wearing kilts daily.
FWIW, I wear a kilt daily.

Because Jewish people are God's people and the Bible says that God's people will be persecuted against. But Jewish people will win.
GOD BLESS JEWISH PEOPLE. WITHOUT THEM THERE WOULD BE NO CHRISTIANITY.
