There is a controversy about how many times she is bred. She stores the sperm in her body and then lays eggs for years until she runs out and is replaced by a new Queen. It is believed that she can lay as many as 1500 eggs per day. The drone that breeds her is believed to die, but she doesn't kill him. All of the breeding is done very high in the air. It is a little hard to see what all goes on.
