I waiver. I have a system, but don't always set it. I think I'm more nervous in the summer than the winter. We live in a pretty calm neighborhood, but the world is so crazy anymore. The reason I got my system is that a neighbor saw someone standing in our front yard looking into the family room windows. That was 10-15 years ago. Don't think it ever happened again. Creepy, huh?

I have never had one until I moved here a year ago and bought this house. I was fine and never felt I needed one then. When I was moving in, there was a teenage kid who kept coming around and acting funny, , , Acting like he was sick, then when that didn't work, acted like he had been running and was tired, then when that still didn't get my attention, or whatever he wanted me to do, he turned around and sat down with his back against the light pole and stared at me. I still ignored him. He would come around and go in the neighbors yard across the street and stare. That is when I decided to get the security system. I am a single female who lives alone. I feel safe and turn it on even when I am home alone sometimes.

NO. I am most happy with my system. When it goes off and the security firm calls my house to verify if there is a problem, the intruder always answers and says, "no trouble". And also when they call because i've fallen and cant get up, it's comforting to know that someone cares. Even if I cant get to the phone. They dont bother to do anything, but the peace of mind I get from them is underwhelming. In fact i'm still waiting for one of my relatives to find me starving and imobilized, here on the hall floor.

yeah, we don't even lock the door - sometimes, especially in the winter, we'll wake up to a stranger or hung-over neighbour sleeping on the floor - canadian farms, eh...
A security system is a good dog that knows when someone is a threat and when they're just crashing out of the snow, lol!

A dog can do the same job and can be a companion too. Alternatively, a strong man can also serve the same purpose.
