Yes, I did ask my doctor if that was a problem. She said likely not- that it was too early. In the literal sense I am only 10 weeks pregnant- but they don't go by that- they go by the date of your LMP. I told the doctor this. She wants me to have an ultrasound within the next two weeks because there was a little tiny bit of bleeding after my examination.

What I meant my examination was Pap test.

Well, I miscarried. No fetal heartbeat on ultrasound. The person doing the exam didn't even show me anything on the monitor. Right away I knew something was wrong. I waited for a doctor out in the lobby for what felt like forever. Then someone came out and told me my family doctor was on the phone, and that is when I was told the news.

...and your doctor didn't say anything about it? fire him/her and get one that TALKS!
if you were concerned...did you not ask then and there?!
*** to poster below me...that is not always true. i am 17 weeks and we have been able to pick up my babies heartbeat before Easter (they checked heartbeat w/doppler while i was in hospital w/the flu im a high risk pregnancy) and if you LOOK at this site it says that one can hear the heartbeat at 13 weeks.***

I dont agree with some the answers posted. I heard the heartbeat with both of mine at 8 weeks. When i went at 5 weeks and they couldnt find a heartbeat my doctor was worried and was warning me about the possibilies of an etopic or tubal pregnancy. Turns out it wasnt. But at 12 weeks you should be hearing a heartbeat If your worried call your doc. Thats what there here for.

Hi,
first im really sorry you are so worried. Please try not to. you are actually really too early to hear the heart beat this way. you are not likely to hear it before 18 weeks....
I think the scan is a good idea it will reassure you that everything is ok. I say my son at only 2 weeks after my due period date! could see the heart beating and everything!
If you ring and tell the Drs that you are really worried Im sure you can ask if the appontment can be made any earlier. Sometimes they can pull strings to get you seen earlier. Its worth doing if you are really frightened. Being scared is not good for you when you are pregnant either...
I wish you loads of luck but Im sure you are fine!
PS Im surprised they did the pap when you are pregnant because anything like that puts your baby at risk of miscarriage! they were naughty! they should have done it after the birth...
good luck to you.

my doctor couldn't hear anything but static at my appointment yesterday, however, she went ahead and did an ultrasound just to make sure everything was ok. and it turned out the placenta was in a place in front of the baby, so it would have been difficult to hear the heartbeat.
probably you are having a similar circumstance.

I had and emergency doppler done at 16 weeks and it got really hard for the nurse to find the heartbeat, it took her arround 30 minutes to find it and when she did, it moved right away. She told me that it was due to the fact that the baby was so small and she moved arround a lot. They are more efective on pregnancies that are further along.

Insist on an ultrasound. Your baby may be positioned in a way that's difficult to hear the heart beat but your doctor doesn't sound concerned enough. Good luck

You should be able to hear the baby's heart with a doppler at 11 weeks. Are you sure of your dates?
Is it possible the doctor heard it and you didn't? Did he/she say anything? Call the office and ask to talk to the advice nurse - she will be able to look at your chart and tell you what's happening.

Maybe the baby was turned funny or the device was malfunctioning. I know it is a scary thing when you do not hear a heart beat. Try to be positive and I am praying for you and your baby. God bless

My dr could not find my baby's at 16 weeks. I have a very healthy baby girl now. Don't worry, it is hard to find until later on.
