Should we succeed in Iraq the media is going to have to spin in it as a defeat as well as liberal democrats. But then you watch, everytime so much as a firecracker goes off in Iraq its going to be "SEE!!! LOOK WHAT BUSH DID!!!"

What makes you so certian that the troops haven't already been succesful? I'll give Bush credit that he won the war against Saddam. Unfortunately he's lost the peace with the Iraqi people. The Democrats are trying to remove our soldiers from a situation where they can not win. The insurgents will not come out in the open and face us, and the openness of Iraq's terrian is such that we need far more troops then even the present surge will provide to try and stabilize the country, and the American people are tired of the occupation. The war was won.

And don't assume that only the Republicans know how to create victory. If you look at the two declared wars that the US fought in the 20th Century, WWI and WWII, the government was led by a Democrat (Wilson and FDR) and the Congress was predominantly lead by Democrats. The Republican argument that the Democrats don't anything about defense because they lost Vietnam and China, doesn't mean a thing. Bush has made several of the same mistakes that LBJ did in Vietnam. Both the Republicans and Democrats can deal effectively with matters of defense. The problem is that most Republicans won't sit down long enough to listen to anyone's opinion but their own.

what is really happening, but rarely said is that this argument we are having is whether we escalate this or get out...it is very apparent that the current tactics have created a stalemate. a surge is really escalation. it's too bad an intelligent conversation can't be held to really look at things in reality (one way or the other).

Successful at what?

Their only mission is sit there and wait to be killed because admitting that the war is a failure is detrimental to W's huge ego and Halliburton's stock price.

Our troops are already successful.
They went in and toppled Saddam.
Its the failure of bush's administration to win the politicalwar

4 years and just promosies of progress being made, but when you look att theaccomplishments of the iraqi government you see its as much a failure as bush's presidency.

Bush and rice keep saying -- we keep tellign them they need to step up...
well if they dont after once or twice, then why keep telling them?

For them to be successful they would have to break the Geneva conventions and shoot indiscriminately.
