FYI "Patrick", STD's have nothing to do with baseball. And I asked about BATTING averages, last time I checked BATTING averages were not covered in high school math.

"Patrick": so no one contracts HIV from heterosexual contact, why don't you ask you "doctor" friend about these stats...and it takes one to know one..
"Around 47% of all people diagnosed with AIDS were probably infected with HIV through male-to-male sexual contact, while people exposed through heterosexual contact comprise around 17% of the total. Since the beginning of the epidemic, the number of heterosexual infections has increased dramatically. According to CDC estimates, heterosexual contact led to about one third of new AIDS diagnoses and one third of new HIV diagnoses in 2005."

At Bats divided by hits. Sacrifices, (both bunts and flies), base on balls, Hit by Pitches, and catcher's interference are not counted as At Bats. Errors and Fielder's Choices are not counted as hits. Therfore if a player reaches on an error, he is 0 for 1 or .000. If he gets a hit next time his average raises to .500 (1 for 2)

Amy, before you say anything about anybody smoking, why don't you educate yourself on a topic before you flap your gums. I participate in a medical forum with a physician, who works in a STD clinic; in his thirty years there, he's never seen anybody acquire HIV from heterosexual contact. So, tell me, what makes you think you'll get HIV from hand to genital contact?

On another note, how the hell do you not know how to calculate a batter's batting average? I'm guessing your acedemic test grades are as slow as their batting averages.

Okay, a person can claim that they're heterosexual, but that doesn't mean they haven't injected drugs or had homosexual contact. According to a certified physician, in America, about 95 % of people with HIV are either IDUs or homosexuals. And, for the other five: 4 percent are "true" heterosexual females and 1 percent are "true" heterosexual males. I really don't want to go into much more detail about HIV in a sports topic. Do some more research.

By the way, I didn't say that nobody acquires HIV from heterosexual contact. I said that he said, in his thirty years at his STD clinic, not once has he come in contact with a "true" heterosexual person that has had HIV.

Also, doesn't the word "average" in batting average pretty much give it away? I think that basically explains itself. Have a good evening, Amy.

Batting average is just how many hits divided by at bats. Like if someone goes 2 for 5 their average for the day would be .400

They take the total number of hits (singles, doubles, triples and home runs) and divide that by the number of official at-bats.

An "at-bat" is every time they come to bat, minus times where they were walked, hit by a pitch, reached base on fielder interference or successfully made a sacrifice.

In baseball, the batting average (BA) is defined as the ratio of hits to at bats.

1) Add up the hits and divide the total by the number of times at bat. 2) Subtract the answer in 1) from 1.00.

number of hits / number of at-bats
so 10 hits/30 at-bats = .333 average
