2 unlike signs=a negative number (when multiplying)
so a negative number times a positive number...make the sign to negative.
for example....
-2 x 3
2 x 3 = 6
negative x positive =negative (unlike signs)
so the answer is -6

2 like signs= a positive number
-2 x -3
2 x 3 =6
negative x negative = positve (like signs)
so the answer is 6

so in this problem.... - - 3 is like saying..
-1 x -3
like signs..so the sign is positve...positive 3.\

-4+3=1

EDIT: oh for godsake..your doing ABSOLUTE VALUE?? you said separating them i thought you meant parentheses..

okay...in case i was right the first time ill leave the top part up there...if your talking absolute value which im now thinkin you ARE and im just stupid...lol..
absolute value=how far away a number is from zero on the number line. so a number line would look like this.....

-4...-3...-2...-1....0....1....2....3....4.....

-4 is ofcourse 4 spaces away from 0...negative 3 is 3 away.
its simple..if theres a negative number inside absolute value bars just take away the negative sign and---ta-da! you have the absolute value..
once you have found the absolute value of each number..take away the bars...

the negative sign in there STAYS..

so your left with
4 - 3....which equals...ONE. :)

i hope ONE of my answers helps ya! ;)

If your saying it looks like this |-4| - |-3| = ?
then it equals 1. Those bars mean that you have to count how far till zero that the number is or just take the number with out the positive or negative symbols by it. Its Called The Absolute Value.

1 is the awnser.

for my area, use BIDMAS: Brackets Indices branch Multiplication upload Subtract this could be a mnemonic for order wherein mathematical calculations are executed. First,do the sum of the numbers interior the brackets: a million+2=3 Secondly, you're able to use branch:6÷2=3 third, as you at present have 2 numbers next to a minimum of one yet another like this: 33 you're able to multiply them at the same time: 3x3=9 And there, now you have your answer: 9 wish that's effective and comprehensible for you :)

I'm pretty sure that you mean the 'absolute value' with the || signs, so
||-4|| - ||-3|| = 4 - 3 = 1
Absolute value just means the number always gets a positive value.
