I am for same sex marriage. First, we should respect what people want to do. Second, love is no discrimination, "all citizens in this state are born free and equal. ," said Mary Bonauto. So are homosexual, they should have the same right as the heterosexual.

-----Can you give me more reasons for same sex marriage?
-----And what about Civil Union? What role does it play in this issue?

First of all, I laud you for being interested in such an important thing and for being understanding and tolerant.

Second, your first argument can be picked to death because some as$hole will say "Well I want to kill people and you don't respect that." So I would omit that.

More reasons:
-- gay marriage poses no threat to heterosexual marriage
-- marriage provides over one thousand rights and benefits otherwise unavailable to couples (hetero or homo), like being able to visit in the hospital and protection under the fifth amendment. For a full list, see pflag.com.
--civil unions are not equal to marriage and therefore are not a solution. And even if they were equal, it would be a case of separate but equal, which was proven a hate-filled mess back in the 60s.
--gays are no different from straights except for matters in the bedroom. There is no reason to think that gays cannot raise kids, hold a job, or otherwise be a productive member of society
-- few gays are the stereotypical flamboyant guy or tomboy girl, there are a wide range of behaviors and they can be exhibited by people of any sexuality
-- HIV/AIDS is primarily a heterosexual disease, especially given the millions infected in Africa and the former USSR, and it was not started by gays
-- religious beliefs should not rule this country because we have freedom of religion and separation of church and state
-- 95% of child molesters are straight men
-- kids do not need a mom and a dad; single parents do fine, and two men or two women will do even better. Kids don't even care what their parents do in the bedroom
-- people do not choose to be gay or straight
-- there is no slippery slope to marrying pets or kids or inanimate objects because gays are fully capable of making an adult choice and signing a marriage application
-- why even care if someone decides to love someone that happens to be the same gender, or the opposite gender. it is love and that is a beautiful thing, there is no reason to hate someone for loving

I hope this helps.

Marriage is a loving bond and spiritual commitment between two people who love each other, not our government. I'm Gay. If I decide I love some one to tangle up with financially, and any other way, I will find a way. I'm not waiting for Joe Hick Fundie to approve.

Still I believe that I should have the same legal rights as heterosexuals.

I think this whole marriage thing being sacred for only a male and female completely bogus. When I worked in a bindery (making books / printing), when we would merge one component with another we called it "marrying"... Jeepers, if the book and its cover can get "married", then so can I!!!!

Gregory

PS. Just because I can doesn't mean I will. Relationships are hard work!

A legitimate societal interest is to stop the spread of aids and other STDs. Marriage (including, of course, gay marriage) discourages people from having multiple sexual partners which limits the spread of these diseases.

I've heard anti-gay marriage people say gay marriage isn't "natural" because it can't lead to procreation. Well then how about banning people who are sterile from marrying? How about elderly people who want to marry? -- they can't have children either. Don't forget -- some of the same arguments that are used to prohibit gay marriage were used years ago for prohibiting bi-racial marriages.

Ultimately, it's the majority telling the minority what it can't do, simply because the majority doesn't feel comfortable with it. There is absolutely no rational reason to prevent gays from marrying, and some very good reasons to allow it.

If the other side brings up the Bible, well the Bible condemns to death not only homosexuals, but children who are disrespectful to their parents, and people who wear threads from two or more different animals.

"Civil Unions" can mean the same or lesser rights for gay couples than for heterosexual ones. To me, why not just let any two people marry and call it marriage?

First, civil unions are filth. In countries where they exist people are still annoyed because it's like saying "well you're equal, but different" and that's not fair. It's like having a "black union" or "Jew union", any separation of terms is unfair.

The reasons for it are obvious. The reasons against tend to be religious, but this is not a religious matter. Heck you can argue that if you let religion start to rule the country, then bit by bit freedoms would get taken away, premarital sex, cheating, and divorce would all be made illegal. You would be making a US version of the Taliban, yup those folk out in Afghanistan that oppressed people and used religion as justification.

Same-sex marriage doesn't infringe on religious freedoms. Marriage in a church is holy marriage, and it can still be denied to homosexuals, because churches still have the freedom to do as they please.

This is only a legal matter. In fact in Canada, it was changed in the courts first, before the wording of the law was changed by our government. You can read more about it here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Same-sex_marriage_in_Canada

So yeah, I rather like being equal, not separate. No segregation of terms, or splitting hairs, just full equality.

The main reason for same-sex marriage, is because we're not different, we're all part of a diverse sexual spectrum, and we should all be accepted.

Liberty and freedom for all, not just some.

Here is an excerpt from an answer given to another question on the issue, I thought it was quite good. It's reasons why gay people should NOT be allowed to get married, read carefully:

"12 reasons why gay people should not be allowed to get married:

1. Homosexuality is not natural, much like eyeglasses, polyester, and birth control.

2. Heterosexual marriages are valid because they produce children. Infertile couples and old people can't legally get married because the world needs more children.

3. Obviously, gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.

4. Straight marriage will be less meaningful if Gay marriage is allowed, since Britney Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage was meaningful.

5. Heterosexual marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are property, blacks can't marry whites, and divorce is illegal.

6. Gay marriage should be decided by people, not the courts, because the majority-elected legislatures, not courts, have historically protected the rights of the minorities.

7. Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America, and that’s why Atheists and Agnostics are not allowed to get married either.

8. Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

9. Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.

10. Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why single parents are forbidden to raise children.

11. Gay marriage will change the foundation of society. Heterosexual marriage has been around for a long time, and we could never adapt to new social norms because we haven't adapted to things like cars or a longer lifespan.

12. Civil unions, providing most of the same benefits as marriage with a different name are better, because a "separate but equal" institution is always constitutional. Separate schools for African-Americans worked just as well as separate marriages for gays and lesbians will."

You can claim the pursuit of happiness. Same sex relationships are not against the law in the US. It is something that can be shared by two consenting adults.

( I just think that it's a big mistake to get married, look at all the trouble that the heterosexuals have!)

Cause in a same sex marriage you never hear of a Divorce. Gay men and woman, know what its like to be rejected for their beilefs and rights to live the same as a hetro couple.
They are more loving and nuturing than most hetrosexuals and they don't discriminate, they just want to be excepted for who they are without being judged by the deemed Hetro laws. They are equal and understand diversity and prejudice yet they still love humankind.

The issue is about legal rights. Hetero people get to have insurance for significant others. They get control over life and death issues, health care surrogates, end of life issues. They get pension benefits. It is not a moral issue. It is about who one has made a commitment to and why that only counts with different genders and not same genders. And the decision to do that is religiously based. I am a straight Christian grandmother who has spent her professional career in churches and synagogues. I believe all people need to be respected equally. Without the legal recognition of gay marriage, gay partners are denied these rights and benefits.

love should not have any boundaries...love is not hurting anyone. there is a seperation of church and state, so why is the bible's beliefs inlfuencing the mass perception?

is falling in love so bad...i feel marriage is a way to seal the union. Without marriage people will cheat and have sex with whoever, with marriage comes commitment, something the gay population needs, to stay monogamous. which can eventually stop the spreading of aids and so forth.

Well, I mean, c'mon! You don't like fat people making out, right? NO. You do NOT wanna see that! BUT you're not going to FORCE them not to, right? That would be immoral-absolutely wrong! Well, then-why ban same-sex marraige? It may be gross to think about to guys getting it on or... well, I don't know anyone who DOESN'T like a couple of chicks goin' at it, but you get my point!
Or you could put it this way...
You can't just tell someone WHO they can or can't love! If you feel a certain way, that's how you feel and you can't really change that without lying to yourself and others. It's wrong.
Put it this way...If you like...let's say...spinach and someone else doesn't, they have NO RIGHT to go to you and tell you that you can no longer eat it because THEY don't like it. "Umm...yeah. Excuse me, but you are no longer aloud to eat spinach. I don't like it very much. So I'm going to be arresting you now. Thank you for cooperation." NO!!!!! That'd be HORRIBLE!
If you like something, then you like it and you should be able to live your own life how you want. I THOUGHT IT WAS A FREE FREAKING COUNTRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i know the U.S. will never go back to black segrigation agian... but somethimes i feel that i will never have equal rights....we learn about things like rascism and enequality in school to try and not repeat the same mistakes... straights need to open there eyes cause they aren't the only ones who live here on earth... we all breath and bleed thus we are equal...it isn't fare that the gay community has to feel this suppresion and anxiety... we need to move on and try to better our world by accepting others for who they are... whether it is for their race, religion, nationality, sexual orentation, or political views everyone needs to accept and move to a new and better tomarrow
