I had this discussion with my high school english teacher today. She nor any of the other faculty had a logical reason for it being considered the worst swear word.

The f word actually means:

Fornication Under Cardinal King

Back in the day you had to have permission from the King to get married. Sometimes the King made a law that before this happened the King or one of his "executive" (lack of a better word) would have the first privilege. They were trying to breed out other races. There is a lot more history to this but that is why this is such a filthy word. But as time wore on the word was still regard as foul but it lost its meaning. Today the "F" word is the most versatile word in the English language because it can be used as a Noun, verb, adverb etc. I can be used in any context. This is one word that has managed to stay in the history books for a very long time and continue to grow into its own species!! lol

Contrary to what people above have said: F**k is NOT an acronym and never was. It is difficult to know it's source precisely as it entered common usage a long time before it was legitimised in any dictionary, but the OED (considered THE definitive resource for etymology in the English language by many) lists it as having come from a Germanic language and the Merriam-Webster lists it as having come specifically from the Dutch word fokken which means "to breed" (specifically cattle).
Regardless of where it specifically came from, it was most certainly not an acronym, as it's previous use included a variety of different spellings, NONE of which indicate that it was an acronym for ANYTHING like what the people above have posted.

To answer your question though, I would say that the C**t word is probably considered to be more vulgar and rude than F**k. The major reason it is considered a vulgarity is through use (the same way most words gain meaning), people use it to offend people and so it becomes reinforced that the word is offensive.

My opinion only.... All the other foul words are "potty" words, or have to do with elimination of some sort.( Think A**hole or a%%wipe) The F word has to do with SEX which Americans, at least, have designated the worst sin. If you can find it, you might get a kick out of George Carlin's "Seven Words you Can't Hear on the radio/tv, or something like that. It's old, so you might have to look on ebay. Also do a google search on F. Lots of interesting answers.

The F word isn't. the C word is. put em together and you've got a real winner~
but to answer your question... probably because it's the all purpose swear word used for anything and used way too much.
Consider the literal definition.. take something wonderful "making love" and translate it into a foul insult word, kinda demeans the whole act, worse yet it really demeans yourself by using it, especially when you have a huge vocabulary and could be so much more creative then resorting to this overused word.

it would desire to be a faux effect of the yank expression, - relax or quiet down meaning just to quiet down, you're overheating and getting indignant' so relax ! this is not any longer swearing.... in case you have been talking on a HAM radio, or maybe on a telephone, it would desire to easily advise "Peace be with you, over and out" meaning you have been ultimate the relationship.

English teachers dislike it because it's hard to know exactly what one means when one says it. It's the only word I know that can be a noun, a verb, an adjective, or an adverb.

It gets even worse when you contemplate its multiple possibilities in compound words.

It just confuses them.

Examples unnecessary.

Perhaps one of the most interesting words in the English language today, is the word fu - fraud: "I got fu - trouble: "I guess I'm really fu - dismay: "Oh, fu - aggresion: "don't fu - difficulty: "I don't understand this fu - inquery: "who the fu - dissatisfaction: "I don't like what the fu - incompetence: "he's a fu - dismissal: "why don't you go outside and fu
I'm sure you can think of many more examples.
With all these multipurpoused applications, how can anyone be offended when you use the word?
Use this unique, flexibel word more often in your daily speech. It will identify the quality of your character immediately. Say it loudly and proudly:
FU
