The eggs have been sitting in the tank for about 3 days.

What type of fish is really important.. and they won't be fertilized unless you have at least one male in the tank.

If they're not fertilized, they will typically get a milky white appearance and become covered by a "fungus". Compare the eggs in this photo - most are fertilized, but there are three that are white: http://www.fishpondinfo.com/eggs2.jpg

If you want to try to raise the fish, a separate tank would be best unless your fish provide parental care (google your fish's species plus the terms "spawning" or "breeding" for info specific to the species you keep). If you keep them in a community tank, there's a good chance that eggs and/or fry will be eaten.
