I'm guessing college is the next year, so my answer is based on that assumption.

I'd suggest apply to every scholarship you can find. (assuming you are going to college). Look at it as a job. If you took 2 hours to write a scholarship applicatin and you got $1000 out it. That's $500 an hour!

Other then that, start looking at things you will need at college. Begin to slowly pack up stuff you will take with you. Are you living in the dorm? Don't take much then - very little room.

Start making contact lists for friends and family. You know they will want to receive mail/email from you while you are away. Email rocks because you can send the same generic message to EVERYONE on the list very quickly.

Other then that - have some fun. relax. Blow off some steam and get ready for even more work. I'd say try to not get a job (unless you HAVE to have one financially) because you will be working your rear off the next 4-6 years. You may even have to have a job while at college.

This summer would be a wonderful opportunity to earn some money for the year of school ahead. Even with scholarships or loans there is always a need for some extra pocket money. You might also try to gain some experience in the field you are considering. Think about a job at an entry level doing something in the field you one day hope to work after college. This will give you some work experience and hopefully some pocket money.

You should also take some time for yourself and to have fun because Freshman year is one of the toughest in college, there is a lot of pressure. Take some time to do things with your friends before you go your seperate ways. If you are going away from your family, take some time to spend with them. Maybe a family vacation. Spend some time with your younger siblings if you have them, these are the moments you will treasure. Once you go back home for breaks from school etc it really never is the same. It isn't a bad time to learn some simple cooking recipes from your parents or a relative.

Enjoy your summer, but don't forget to think about what you need to do to make your Freshman year go as easily as possible.

One thing to add to what Ray said. Take about 10 - 20 hours to volunteer and tutor a kid or just take one to the park a few hours once a week.

Oh yeah, don't make any bills. You do not want that over your head while in college or just starting to work. There will be plenty time to do all of that.

Try to get a job in your chosen field (can't be your career as you do not have qualifications, yet) Get some experience in this chosen field. This can help choose a more suitable career or help you when you get to college and give you contacts to assist you when in college.

take a long long nap so you can make up for the sleep you won't get while at college
