I can do everything else when it comes to building a bike, but I neglected to learn anything about the electrical system. I'm currently building my first custom bike, but as soon as it comes to wiring, I'll be lost.

In the primary case you have a rotor which is a big bowl shaped magnet that spins on the crankshaft around a stator which is a series of wrapped coils. That is your alternator.
That runs to your rectifier/regulator that feeds that battery and breaker panel.
You can purchase complete wiring harnesses and use a manual to adapt an existing harness to your custom rather than starting from scratch.

Alternator goes on left side crankshaft end, under primary chain sprocket.
