Of course no one really knows, but, having said that ... the real significance of the Great Awakening was that it united the 13 colonies into one unit, as one possible future nation, and also, and this is not to be underestimated, it clearly manifested a path that salvation was an issue of personal choice. No longer would strict old fashioned Calvinism be put into place, wherein God made all the decisions, but the individual could choose salvation or not, as they wished. This was, of course, the early version of the idea that the king would not longer make all the decisions, but the individual would make their decision about government and governmental affairs as well, for better of for worse.

History is always asked "What if ..." and of course it cannot be answered becauwse events never ever happen in singles, there is always a larger picture. However, in this case, if one might suggest one possible conclusion, and if nothing else happened differently, it would possible to conjecture that there could be today a large number, perhaps 13 or more, individual countries in what is today the USA ... and those 13 countries would not completely enclose the land from Atlantic to Pacific, because the Louisiana Purchase would not have been made, Texas and California would still have broken away from Mexico (they did this independently of the USA) so perhaps there would be 15, plus Oregon Territory would be an independent country, Alaska and Hawaii would not belong to the USA ... and the snowball keeps growing ...
