Hey guys, I have a question. I'm a big noob when it comes to computers... Is having a AMD Anthlom 64 X2 DUAL core processor 3800+ *speed 2.0 GHZ*, 3.00GB of RAM good enough to make my 2.0 GHZ speed irrelevant? I'm not sure if the speed will make a big difference, I know it's not the best hehe.

Thanks in advance.

I also have a Radeon X1950GT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Video Card

Well actually the better rule of thumb when comparing AMD speeds to Intel speeds is to use the number in the name of the AMD processor that is there for that very purpose. Meaning the 3800+ would be equivalent to a 3.8Ghz Pentium D, since both are dual core you need to compare to Pentium D not Pentium 4. This rule no longer applies when comparing to Core 2 Duos, but that is another subject. That processor is plenty fast, and you really only need 2GB of RAM, not three.

2 GHz is fine, even the 64x2 5800 is only around 2.8 GHz. Ram is actually a larger factor in perceptible speed. I would suggest at a minimum 1 GB or even better would be 2 GB in dual channel mode.

GHZ is short for Giga Hertz. which means billion cycles in line with 2d. maximum processors as we communicate perform at speeds of approximately 3 billion cycles in line with 2d. each cycle can technique one command or one math step. whilst the IBM pc first got here out it operated at 2.88 Mega Hertz. 2.88MHz. We thought that became incredibly, incredibly quickly.

Intel Duel Core is better. AMD usually make better chips but for this round of processors on the home market the Intel chips are streaks ahead.

A good rule of thumb for comparing AMD's speed to Intel is to add 1 GHz to the AMD speed.

Ex My AMD at 2Ghz is about the same speed of a Intel at 3Ghz

That's a very good speed and you'll get plenty of processing power with that much RAM.
