1.) Since it works via vibrations, sound is a mechanical wave and needs a medium to travel through. Therefore, it can move through anything with mass, and the only choice that does not have mass is a vacuum, so the answer is A.

2.) Lower. Ever heard of the doppler effect? It uses this. The faster the higher, and the slower the lower.

B: lower - the vibration speed is a measure of the frequency (how often the wave passes a point) and the lower the frequency the lower the sound is to our ears.
