The head of the taliban was killed, I'd say that's some progress. Death numbers don't tell the story because they are rarely ever accurate.

Depends on what you mean by "working"

It enabled Bush to truly be the Decider-In-Chief. The midterm election of '06 made it inevitable that we would have to change course, but all of the changes anybody had proposed involved some implication that Bush's strategy to date had failed. So, ever resourceful, he chose the one "new" path that NOBODY recommended: the Surge.


At least he didn't have to admit to any mistakes.
