i just got a new job and i enjoy what im doing. however, the position that I am taking.. is taking over what another employee was doing, except she is training me. Now she will be doing something else. I figured that if this employee knows the system well why would they want a new person to fill in for that position.

If she is staying with the company, she probably got a promotion, or requested a transfer. If she wasn't doing a good job, she wouldn't be staying with the company or training you.

It's entirely possible that the first employee did an excellent job and is getting a promotion, or the employer may be cross training the first employee. Often employees are trained in doing several different jobs at work. Then if an employee is out ill or on vacation, someone else can fill in. If a big project comes in, employees from other areas can be brought in to finish the project on time.
Both of these scenarios are good for you.
The first means that there is a chance for advancement with a better job and better pay.
The second means that you become more valuable to the company and in the event of downsizing, they are less likely to release an employee that has already proved they can work in several areas.

She's training you to fill her position because she's been promoted. Enjoy your new job, do your best. If you do, you will be training a replacement for your job and move forward, just as your predecessor. Good luck in your new position.

Since you are being trained in by the person whose job it was, the person is most likely being promoted. This is good for you because it means the company promotes from within. So this is a good opportunity for you and your future. Enjoy.
