There is absolutely nothing that you have done to cause three of the babies to be skittish. As with humans, rats have different personalities and this time around you happened to get three shy personalities. You can either accept them the way they are, or you can try these bonding/trust exercises:

Just be careful of the breeding. You're starting out just the way I did and now I have around 100 rats.

It really bothers me that the first two answers immediately jump to the conclusion that these three rats are aggressive :( Anti-social and aggression are two different matters. Only people who have kept rats for awhile, like you and me, know and understand this difference.

If they are not showing any aggression, they are fine. Animals can have personalities like other animals (such as cats and dogs) and even like people. I had a rat once that liked to be held like a baby and wasn't happy unless you were doing so.

If they are showing aggression (such as biting, etc), that is a really bad sign.

I would suggest seperating the rats by gender into seperate cages. Rats do not have to be very old to breed (trust me, I found this out the hard way). Maybe some of your rats problems could be hormone related.

I hope this helps you.

Did you ever see the movie with Ben? I think rats are really clever animals but I just don't want them as pets. Twenty of anything sounds like a lot. What will you do when you have sixty? You will be responsible for finding good homes for all of them. . .

Why are you afraid of mermaids and ghosts? those issues have no evidence of contemporary so why waste a 2d stressful approximately them? i assume the comparable is going for something; stressful is a huge waste of time and does no one any good. you are going to be able to as nicely recover from those "phobias" except you opt to spend something of your existence in concern.

well this sounds like me because i breed rats and out of all the litters that i have i get at least 1-2 that don't want to have anything to do with me, so the thing that i do is feed them to my snakes. i know you probably didn't want to hear that but that is how i determine if it will be a pet or a feeder. if i can't pick it up then it is a feeder rat, but if i can pick it up then it is a pet that i keep. you are not doing anything wrong but be a very good owner, it is the rats, so the thing that you can do is to see if there is a pet store that you can take them to because if you don't do anything with them now then it will be harder to find them homes or you will end up with rats that can't be held. i breed mine for my snakes but i also keep some for pets for my kids and for myself. rats are very social but there are times when you just get 1-2 that just doesn't want to cooperate with others, so the best thing to do is to find them homes or ask your local pet store if they would take them. don't get me wrong i love mine but my snakes have to eat too. i love all my animals.also you can make them toys to play with like getting a paper towel rol and tape one side with duct tape and them put small holes all around it themn add some nuts or some of their food that they like and then tape the other side, give it to them and they will have fun with it because they will try to get their food. i do this for mine and they love it. well i hope this helps and good luck with all your ratties.
