I have a 18 ft by 4 ft pool, I was thinking of digging out the middle before I put it up for the summer so it will be deeper. I was thinking of about 18" in the ground. but I was worried about stress on the sides seams along the bottom. I bought this from wal-mart last year.

I did this several years back. I did it more to accomodate my wife, who has mobility problems. I dug the whole pool down a foot, but left a ledge so my wife could use it as a step, but still benefit from the depth of the pool. You probably want it all lower, but I would recommend a level spot where kids get in, for safety. You should be able to form the liner to a reasonalbe degree, I did it for the step. BTW, step was mostly clay, to hold it's shape.

I did that with a 28 foot pool. Went down to 5 feet in the center. Not sure of the quality of your liner though. I bought a premium liner and had no problems.

Forget it. The liner is not designed to bulge out like that. If you dig out underneath it, the weight of the water will burst it. Your nice, new pool will turn into a giant, broken water balloon.
