Older people and for me that's people over 70, as I'm in my early fifties have always taught me alot about the world. I loved listening to my aunts and uncles and grandparents talk about their lives both in the old country and here in Canada. I enjoyed hearing my parents' stories, unlike my brother and cousins who thought it was ' square'. Who do they all come to to ask for information now , you got it- me.
I think families should get these stories on tape or video tape and keep them in a safe place for grandchildren and great grandchildren to see once grandparents, parents and great grands have passed away.

Oh man i just love older people i mean just look at all they have been though and look how long they can live its amazing. I mean i wish my grandfather was still alive because i was a little too young to ask him questions about his past and well i was young and didnt understand the meaning you're time is up when you're time was up and he died before i could really ask him the good questions. But i love hearing about the past and all they have done with their life. And sometimes i wish i lived back in the old days with them because it sounds like such a wonderful place to be and seemed safe. But the one thing i loved learning from my grandfather was that he told me to respect the older people and treat them with mush respect because i mean they are older then us and they have seen and heard more then anyone esp me.

When I was younger I associated with others that were either younger than me or older than me. I discovered that much more could be learned from older and younger people than people my age. Now, I happen to be a member of the older generation. Someday you will be in the same position in life. It is unavoidable.

for those with the insensitive answers - does that mean you don't have parents or that you are naive enough to believe that they will never die?
old people are so cool. it's sad because a lot of them have outlived their friends and they don't know how to make new friends with younger people. and of course, it doesn't help that many younger people have no interest in knowing anyone older than they are...
if your parents have passed on, take a minute to honor them by saying hello to someone who is old and frail. we will all stand in those shoes someday!

*laughs*, that is very true, history repeats itself. We are repeating the time or the Romans. They had it going fror them and they were powerful, but things started dissolving. the government kept people distracted and just like us, we are totally distracted from our surroundings. And thenext thing you know Romans bye-bye. And it happens again and again, every "civilization", rule, Aztecs, Qing, China's dynasties, all those cities in europe, asia, africa, north and south america. Every single one, this one about to go into a new era.

It depends. Some are wise have have lots of knowledge from their experiences. Others are delusional people who think the about the "good old days" despite any progresses that may happen over the decades.

I do because they give excellent first hand accounts of a world that I can't even imagine. Not only that but some of the love stories, survival stories, etc. etc. read better than fiction.
