Macbook Pro Screenshots are not saving to the desktop.?

I am taking screenshots with my Macbook Pro. Usually they save to the desktop. I hear the little camera sound and the pics are no where to be found...any suggestions?

Use Spotlight to search for *.jpg or whatever extension your screen capture software uses.

Then, open your screen capture app and tell it to always save to the desktop in Preferences.

i do no longer use a Mac so forgive if this may well be a stupid question yet could you previous your screenshot right into a application like paint and shop it as a jpeg and then shop that as your laptop history?
