For a tenth grader I would recomend the TI-84. I am a senior in college right now and I used a TI-83 for math up to calculus 3 and linear algebra. Save the money and buy the 84 for now. If you need something better in the future, buy one then. The technology will only improve with time.

i think a ti-84 plus would be good( around $100), because 89's are very expensive ($150+). i have a ti-83+ and am going to pre-calc in tenth grade too, am in algII/trig now, am not planning to buy a calc soon. in most of the uc's u cannot use calcs on many of the tests, and so are useless unless doing hwk.

the ti-84 is more than enough to get through pre-cal and calc

college might require ti-89 for more advanced stuff like 3d graphing

However, I find the ti-89 overly complicated for highschool use...

i.e. need to go through menus to type in simple operations (sin, cos, ln,) etc...

the ti-84 has those as a one-click key

I would say a TI-84, you don't even need the plus. I am a junior and mine works fine and a Ti-89 would probs not be worth the money now.

Pre-Calc I was OK with the Ti-83 Plus. But I would recomend the 89 becuse you will need it for later math classes.

maximum scholars contained in the sciences and math finally end up needing assorted calculators in college, and many professors require certain calculators for his or her courses and/or explicitly ban certain fashions. i'd advise protecting off till you get your e book/furnish lists and then finding out to purchase a cheap used one to commence you off. once you exercising hardship-free your branch's opportunities and allowed fashions, then make a higher funding. And for what it really is nicely worth, maximum departments want and/or require TIs, so so that you could be positive with that. :)
