You don't have to write all this down when you solve equations, I just wanted to show you how to do it.

2y + 18 = 12 - 6 (y + 7)

2y+18=6(y+7)

2y+18=6y+42

2y + 18 -18 = 6y + 42 - 18

2y - 6y = 6y - 6y + 24

(-1) -4y = 24 (-1)

4y= -24

4y/4 = -24/4

y= -6

2y+18=12-6y-42
2y+18+6y=12-6y+6y-42
8y+18=-30
8y+18-18=-30-18
8y=-48
y=-6

2y+18=12-6(y+7)
2y+18=12-6y-42
2y+18=-6y-30
8y+18=-30
8y=-48
y=-6

Check:
2(-6)+18=12-6(-6+7)
-12+18=12-6(1)
-12+18=12-6
6=6
