The annual Barn Dance was just around the corner. The town band had decided to practice out at the Police brothers farm....you remember the Police brothers, right? Yep, they're the ones who delivered the triplets out at the Morgans. (That was the day ol' Doc had decided to go on a picnic with LadyLinda and COMPLETELY forgot that Mrs. Morgan was going into labor!!) He had some REAL 'splainin' to do THAT day!! Anyway, the band members were all setting up in their front parlour. The director, Sam Noonan, bartender at the Longbranch, told the guys that they really needed to buckle-down and get serious. "But Sam, I wanted to show you my new rock collection," said Dill Gherkins, the village idiot!" The harmonica player nudged him.....(1.)" Listen To What The Man Said, Dill. Stop fooling around." Dill reluctantly dropped his rocks, barely missing Sam's foot.
They had been practicing their songs for about 20 minutes, when Matt Dillon and his girlfriend Sunshine MacGillicutty came to the front door......(3.)" Let Them In," yelled Sam. Matt and Sunshine came in, giggling like a couple of lovesick teenagers. "Why are you late,Sunshine?" Sam was a bit irritated. He liked things to follow a particular schedule....besides, his heel spur was acting up! "Sorry, boys," said Sunshine. "Uhhhhh, (she winked at Matt) I was all tied up. Got here just as SOON as I could."
She and Matt took a seat by the water cooler. "Okay, little Miss....have you written any new songs for the dance," asked Clem Cadaver, the town mortician? I just L L L LOVE your s s songs, you know." Ever since that day Clem had tried to seal a coffin shut with a LIVE body in it, he had developed a stutter. The occupant had not been deceased, but rather, in a coma. When he regained consciousness, he sat straight up in the wooden box and grabbed Clem's arm!!....thus....the stutter.
Sunshine announced that she had written a few. "They're mostly (4.) Silly Love Songs. They're a bit tricky during the middle eight, but......(5.) With A Little Luck We Can Work It Out." She got out her guitar and strapped it on. Matt beamed with pride as she launched into her latest ditty.....(To the tune of "Maybe I'm Amazed")
♫ Maybe I'm amazed at the way you stormed into my life. And maybe I'm afraid of the way Miss Kitty hates me. Maybe I'm amazed at the way you spank me when I'm wrong. You love to hear my song. Maybe I'm amazed at the way you love to shag me." ♫
At the conclusion of the song, Matt grabbed her and kissed her soundly on the mouth. As their lips parted.......Matt sang softly...."And maybe I'm amazed at my little silly filly." The towns folk were becoming used to the fact that their once stoic U.S. Marshal was turning into a figure from one of those
romance novels.
Burke, the Feed and Grain man, but known to all as the town gossip, decided that he would tell Miss Kitty ALL about the lovey dovey stuff going on with the Marshal and his "filly." He loved telling Kitty all the bad news. Every time she got wind of Matt's latest shenanigans, she got out her bottle of Randy Scouse Git Rotgut and danced an Irish Jig on one of the tables at the Longbranch. Burke loved watching her swish her skirt around and belch out the tune of "Oh, Susanna." He thought SHE was quite amazing, truth be told.
Sam: "Now boys.....and lady.......we need to be GOOD on Saturday. Remember how scarey it was the time they chased us out of the dance hall and down the alley!" Sunshine perked up and made a strange face. Everyone looked at her....."S'up, baby, asked Matt?" Sunshine started scribbling something down on paper....."I have a GREAT idea for a new song.....how about..........( 2.) Band On The Run?"
Dill Gherkins , who had been counting his toenails , screamed out......."What a DUMB name for a song." Matt punched him in the arm and they got back to practicing.

With a little luck we can work it out, if we listen to what The Man said, so Let Them In, that Band on the Run, and we'll sing some Silly Love Songs.
