Here are the facts:
Weed is not addictive, although they say it is "mentally addictive" Mentally addictive is an oxy moron. The webster deffinition of addiction is "a chemical need for a substance" CHEMICAL! This means you can't get mentally addicted. Enjoying the feeling doesn't make it addicting. When i go to the movie theater i enjoy that, does that mean that I am addicted to going to the movie theater and there is a 12 step program to get off of it?
No one has ever died from it. 99.9% of the people who have died from lung cancer after smoking alot of weed also smoked cigarettes. It doesn't contain as much tar as an entire pack of cigarettes either, as some people have said. This is a blatant lie.
It doesn't make you violent. When someone smokes a joint, they don't wanna go out and rob a bank, they want to sit on the couch and watch a funny movie, listen to music, or have a nice conversation with a friend.

People think that because it's an illegal drug that it's illegal because it's bad. It's illegal because the government can't tax it because it's so easily grown. It's also illegal because 99.9% of the time if you feel sick weed makes you feel better. If it was legal, the government would loose money on medecine.

Actually, it doesn't make you dumber. It opens up your mind to new ideas and actually makes you more creative and smart. The reason stoners don't do good in school is because they are smart enough to know that the stuff they are teaching in school is completely pointless. i mean, when are you ever gonna need to know who was the first communist leader of china, or the annatomy of a plant cell. NEVER. we don't waste our time on that pointless ****.

All the stoners I know at my school, of which there are a lot, all of a sudden act like this:
*they get dumber
*they are disorganzied
*they don't care about important things, and don't seem to realize they are making bad decisions
*my friend went to rehab for weed, yes it can be addictive
*they can't have fun without smoking weed first
*they are not funny anymore, just dumb
*munchies make them fatter
*they get bad grades at school

Weed can make you mess up a lot of things in your life. You miss school sometimes because of it, it dumbs you down and I knew a guy that was addicted. He was addicted to the feeling he got, the psychological change he felt. He blames it for his mental illness. Weed can sometimes trigger a mental illness if your predisposed to it like schizophrenia.
But, yes it is a healthier drug to be on then many others, in fact alcohol and tobacco cause far more deaths then weed ever will and alcohol and tobacco is legal.
In the end it's your choice, but you should think carefully about why your doing it and what the consequences could be.

Legality isn’t the issue, making it illegal is just a form of the government trying to play the role of your moral compass.
But to the poster, you are wrong. You can get mentally addicted to something. You are right that there is a chemical effect. THC might not be directly addictive but the natural chemicals your body releases are addictive. PLENTY of people are addicted to alcohol but ethanol is not an addictive substance. Plenty of people drink without getting addicted but plenty of people do get addicted and can not function socially without a buzz or they need to drown out reality to feel right.
There are plenty of mental addictions. Gambling, sex, thrills. In those cases you aren’t even taking in an outside chemical but you are mentally addicted due to the chemical response your brain rewards itself with. When you are mentally addicted to something your brain can trigger a chemical reward of adrenalin and endorphins when you act out in the addiction.
But then your question isn’t about addiction, it is about badness. As you admit, THC causes you to become passive. In other words you become indifferent. This is definitely a problem in itself. Granted, people can function normally doing the drug occasionally but most people that decide to do it don’t just do it occasionally. Just because you aren’t addicted to the chemical doesn’t mean that it’s ok do use constantly. (which is usually the case)
Lets look at the effects of the drug: short term memory loss and apathy. As a teenager, the most important thing you can possibly do with your life is to learn. The brain needs time to digest knowledge in order to retain it. Until this is done, the information depends highly on the short term memory to recycle the information over and over until you set it into your long term memory. In my experience, the kids that smoked every day after or during school were nice sure but they were generally pretty dumb. Even doing it once a week severely limits the amount of information that you retain. It only affects your short term memory, but you will not gain long term memories when you continually erase the slate before you transcribe everything.
The other problem is apathy or as you put it “they want to sit on the couch” and do nothing. You are harming yourself by doing nothing. This apathy overrides any shame or embarrassment someone might feel due to the fact that they are doing poorly in school due to no short term memory. Therefore they have no desire to better themselves. Extreme apathy will lead to the realization that you are nothing after learning nothing after 4 years in high school which leads to the desire to smoke more in order to increase the apathy or leads to depression due to the realization.
This is why it is bad. If you are content to be nothing then go ahead and smoke it all day long but you only have high school once and after that you are screwed if you’ve squandered the opportunity to learn the basics.

99.9% of the time that people try to argue about the legalization of Marijuana they already use it. So why bother trying to legalize it. You also should be glad that it isn't legal. If it was you would pay much more for it. The companies that sold it would need to advertise it and package it and pay health care to there employees. More overhead, more cost. Plus if it were legal it would be taxed by the government and you would have to pay sales tax. All of these things would add to the cost of weed. So why would you want to legalize it. So you don't feel guilty about smoking it?

Any school that receives federal funding will teach this because weed is illegal. If they want to remain open then it would serve them best not to go against any federal laws or encourage their students to do so. I mean one teacher who teaches weed isn't bad would lose his/her job...what if a whole entire school system decided to teach that weed isn't bad...they would lose all of their funding and be forced to become a private school...which I don't even know how long that would last.

It is illegal - and therefore bad. Personally I feel it should be legalized so we can tax the heck out of it. I experimented w/ it in college, but got smart and swore off it. What discouraged me was a realization I had - pretty much every long time habitual user of pot that I knew was quite dim. They'd smoked themselves stupid. I don't know if there's any scientific correlation - but it was enough for me.

They should say the whole truth. I too love to smoke pot [ hence my name ] And it has been proven that alcohol and ciggerettes are more harmful. And it is only illegal due to racism in the past against mexicans. It does not make anyone violent its quite the opposite.

Because it is illegal. I'm not saying it is bad, but most teachers try to teach illegal things are bad. I personally don't think it is so bad, and there are legal things that are 100% worse, but they are legal. Go Grassroots party!!!
