Liberal democrats are idealists, not realists. By very definition, liberalism is idealism, much like communism. It doesn't work in the real world. Sure world peace would be great. If we could all join hands, sing songs Christians with Muslims, Sunnis with Shiites etc. But it is unrealistic. So is using 1 piece of toilet paper to help save the world from global warming. What gives? Why don't liberal democrats realize they are not realists AT ALL?
PS. I do have my MS degree in Neuroimmunology and am currently in dental school (so yeah, I'm educated. Don't use that in your argument.) Thanks.

As opposed to the realism displayed by Neo-Cons with the whole "nuke 'em, invade 'em, ye-haw" line of diplomacy? The problem is that you are spouting Neo-Con rhetoric without analyzing reality.
What is this Neo-Con realism of which you seem so self assured? Expanded government and a high deficit with constant invasion of foreign nations and destabilization of regions?

So I guess you're a bible thumping evangelical who believes that Jesus would bomb Iraqis because they're heathen pig dogs, right?
No? Well I guess the broad-stroke, stereotypes don't seem to work out to well do they.
Conservative Republicans are no more realistic. Trying to force your views of what's "right" and the "one true religion" down other people's throats at gunpoint is not realistic either. In fact, you'll get a lot of people rather pissed off when you tell them what to believe in and how they should run their country.
And again, the completely incorret equality of liberalism == communism. Is conservatism == fascism? No it doesn't. Conservative is right. Fascism is extreme right. Liberal is left. Communism is extreme left.
Do not take the ramblings of Sheryl Crow or any other talking head to be the "voice" of liberal America. I do not take the rantings and ravings of Rush or Coulter to be the voice of conservative America.
Yes liberals are generally considered to be idealistic, however most are moderates. They do want things to be better and they would get warm fuzzies if things could be better for everyone. This isn't communism. It's not even socialism. It's "let's leave this place a little better than we found it".
Or maybe I should be more like you. It's far easier to make grand sweeping insulting generalizations against groups you disagree with than to come up with a well reasoned repsonse. It takes less energy and effort to reinforce your own views than try to understand another's.
I guess that's why there's all thi banter on the board.

You have it completely backward on so many levels. Liberals are the realists. Conservatives are the idealists.
LEVEL 1: Liberals believe what the majority of scientists tell them on the big bang, evolution, and global warming. They're the experts. Conservatives being beholden to tradition and dogma will reject it all and instead believe what their preachers and right-wing pundits tell them. Liberals live in a fact based reality wheras conservatives live in a FAITH BASED reality.
LEVEL 2: Liberals believe shifting taxes to the rich, creating legislation that helps the average joe and economic programs that help people work their way up leads to better economic growth. Conservatives believe the opposite. There is historical data on real GDP, tax revenues, median incomes, poverty rates, etc and that data proves LIBERALS RIGHT. Liberals are the REALISTS. Conservatives are idealists and will keep believing what they believe regardless of the facts.
LEVEL 3: Conservatives believe in the "good old days" when everything was apparently just plain dandy. Problem is back then women and minorities had no rights, the holocaust was going on, millions of people were dying in world wars, interracial marriage was illegal, and racism and spousal abuse still existed.

I am not a conservative but more of a moderate republican, but yes liberals are idealist hints why they are so popular because they are the people saying we can make things like world peace possible and everyone likes to think that way that everything will be okay in this world, so liberals may get some popularity from being idealist but that is also why they make such horrible politicians

You may be educated in teeth, but you aren't educated at all in politics. Otherwise you'd realize that liberal countries exist in the real world and they live in peace with other cultures just fine. Your definition of a real world is limited by your watching Fox News and television entertainment programs.

Well, I'm gonna use more than 1 sheet of toilet paper no matter what. That's just dumb. You know what else, try to be nice. All liberals are not bad people, just like all conservatives aren't all bad either. Generalizations are bad.Don't judge if you don't want to be judged.

If one isn't a realist, one isn't tied down by silly details like knowing whether one is a realist or not. In fact, one might not even believe in realism as a concept. They might call it a social construct that has no basis in their conception of the world.
See, I can spout mumbo-jumbo as well as the next academic.

Conservatism and liberalism are both idealistic ideologies, same as any other political viewpoint.
You want realism? There is no governor beyond your own mind.
There is no true security. You are your own President, judge, jury, and executioner. The laws of cause and effect are the only ones you cannot fail to obey. The rest is arbitrary interpretation..

Liberals agenda is built on emotions not reality, if doesn't fit the flower people concept of peace and forgiveness, it's got to be wrong.
"Just Give Peace a Chance," was the cure for all crimes.

All the education in the world will not get you any common sense.
You generalize. That is like saying all conservatives are like the hard right supportors when it is not true either.
