Sorry i should have added that i can talk to him just fine, we just do this thing where we ask each other questions and im drawn a blank and can't think of any we have already spoken about what he likes, dislikes, goals. I just was think you guys could help me out.

Try focusing on them and what interests them in particular...like what they like to do for fun,etc...Most people love to talk about themselves or their interests and if they aren't very talkative find something you may have in common with them to discuss and take the lead in the conversation...=)
