Leukemia diagnosis isn't based on WBC count alone. WBC differential (how many/what types of WBC's) is also important as well as the appearence of immature forms. Usually the abnormal CBC is sent for pathologist review and often a recommendation of a bone marrow aspiration is made. The result of the bone marrow is usually when the diffinitive diagnosis is made.
