Yes it's good, and it's been happening for a while. In some of the Sunni dominated areas (Alanbar - spelling is off), they have a surge, no pun intended, in police recruits because of this. If the Sunnis and Shites come to view Al Q as their common enemy, which of course is since their goal is to forment civil war, then they can unite against Al Q instead of one another and we can get the hell out. Moreover, the Sunnis have come to see that we're not their enemy, we've helped protect them from Shite militia and the Al Q animals.

Yes. Our government (any sane government) has multiple reasons for EVERYTHING they do. The simplistic and foolish attempts to reduce a complex and real event to a political and simplistic argument is a waste of everyone's time except those trying to gain political points at the expense of their own country (or someone else's).
Islam has ever been at war with itself. It just doesn't have the free press for us to discover the events like this when they fight for who has the most claim to Muhammed's legacy. This has been going on for centuries.
What is new? They are doing this in the midst of having US there! Islam is having a revolution, and some people from opposite sides are siding against the Islamic dictators and their allies. Freedom and free speech are becoming VERY wanted commodities.
They will embrace it, because they can no longer stop it.
Not all of our goals are public, because our leaders DON'T owe us to reveal ALL our national secrets just because someone yells, "CONSPIRACY!" while surrounded by nations itching to steal them in the first place.

I think it could go either way as good or bad news. If the al-qaeda and the Sunni's are fighting each other, it might take part of the brunt off of us and they may start to attack each other more often than they attack us. On the bad side it will just go to creating more unrest in the nation and expand the civil war that is already in progress throughout Iraq.
Considering the Repubs do not want to get out of Iraq until the country is in a stable postion to handle their own problems, this news is bad in that sense. If they continue to fight against each other and create more secular unrest throughout their country it means it will be even longer until the country is stable and can take care of their own problems. Democracy will take even longer to set in and it will be harder for their adolescent government to create a stable dmeocratic nation.

Sorry. I believe very little of news that comes through the sieve of the US regarding the Middle East. I would have to visit several sites. And then I would have to visit several more. I simply do not believe the US anymore. They claim to have killed thousands of al quaeda,Taliban. They give us names, all arabic, as though we know the difference. It's all a crock......everything the US tells us anymore is suspect.
and its not all Sunni against Shia..or vice versa.
There is still the question of mercenaries, unaccountable, able to do anything they want with no fear of punishment, thousands in Iraq, the best of weapons, the best capabilities.
But again, unaccontable.
So we don't really know who is fighting who, or if the mercenaries are simply making it appear as if it is faction against faction.,

Even if they are fighting under religious names and for religious ideas, underneath it all, they are fighting for political power. It isn't a big difference in religious ideas. It is kind of like Republicans vs the Democrats. The answer is that it is bad news and the news hasn't changed over the past 1600 years.
