Explain how only four nitrogen bases can code for every trait in an organism?

How can only 26 letters communicate the English language? By combination into words. Likewise, the bases of DNA are encoded in triplets which encode peptides in order to make proteins. The proteins do the cellular work.

The four bases can be arranged in countless sequences - each sequence able to direct the formation of a different protein.

The DNA tells how to make the proteins. The proteins run everything else.

To expand on the previous two answers:
Think of everything bit of information on your PC and on the internet. It all comes down to a binary system 1 and 0. Life has 4 switches (ATGC) as opposed to 2.
