The problem with that sentiment is that the only people who would stop being violent are those who are the least likely to be violent in the first place. Those who commit violence either don't care that they're hurting others (e.g. street criminals), or they feel justified in doing it (e.g. terrorists). So unfortunately messages of non-violence would have no effect on such people.

It would indeed be nice if we could, but humanity as a whole is still too primitive and immature a species to give up violence. For sure we humans have a few enlightened among us who understand the futility and counter-productiveness of violence, but those people are unfortunately still in the minority. While most of us would never do _direct_ harm to another, we nonetheless cheer our governments on when they do violence to others in our name. Then we wonder why so many desperate people are so willing and ready to commit violence against us....

That's a dream in your world. But in the real world no.

Yet in the real world we have both kinds of people and all those in between. So don't give up hope!

Nope. It will never happen. People are very attached to their judgments, anger and hatred for one another.

We live in a culture that professes that we have a right to be angry.

it wouldn't' happen in reality, but i also wish it would.
you can't control people and how would you monitor them. the only way there will be peace is if we stop being afraid of each other and ourselves and embrace the truth.
