Hi all,

Does anybody know how to find the option-implied volatility of a company? I can get it from Bloomberg, but is there a public service(e.g. Yahoo Finance, etc.) that can give me such information?

Let's take GM as an example, it has some 24months options, from the pricing of the options we can obtain an estimate of the option-implied volatilities.

Thanks a lot

Sorry, I think I had a typo.

It's not the option-implied vols for a computer,

I should type I am looking for option-implied vols for a company...

Thanks

To gls_merch:

Sure I can do a Excel program. But where do I get the options data? Is there a free-service for the option data? I currently have to go to Bloomberg to get them... but I am looking for an online public service to download.

Thanks

To ZMAN492:

thanks for your excellent replies. But where can I find option pricing info? I am thinking of to obtain option info from a public source, and then plug into the option-volatility calculators you've provided. Indeed, one of your websites actually obtain the stock price automatically, but it doesn't obtain option price automatically, if it can do both automatically, it would be ideal. Is there a way to find public available option info automatically?

Thanks

For a free service, I think the answer is no.

You could create a spreadsheet that if you download the data (or plug it in) that you could solve for the implied volatility. If I recall correctly implied volatilities are interpolated because there is no "closed form" solution. Of course, this could be solved if you write a macro.

First, you cannot calculate implied volatility (IV) for a company or a stock. IV only applies to an option.

You can calculate IV for an option using an option calulator, such as the ones at

and

You can get free option quotes from a number of places, including
