I am changing my black ink cartridge. The one presently in my psc 7310xi is number 96. The one I bought in a box which recites it is for "7300 series" is number 94. Your list of supplies lists 94 as the correct cartridge. Is 94 the correct one, or should I look for a 96 black ink cartridge?

Both cartridges will work.

Cart 94 is a 450 page yield black while the cart 96 is a 800 page yield black.

It all depends on whether or not you want to pay the extra $10 ($30 total) for the 96 and nearly double the pages versus the 20 bucks for the 94.

It looks like your question was misdirected. I have two suggestions for you. I have recently found HP support to be excellent. If you e-mail their contact link, you will get an answer within a hour or so.
Or,
You can go to www.carrotink.com and search for the appropriate cartridge for your printer. I'm not telling you to buy, just go there to check the numbers.

Actually, I only use brand name ink until the printer is out of warranty, then I go generic.
