The most commonly accepted philosophical definition of knowledge is "justified, true belief".

For a piece of information that you believe to be true to be considered knowledge, (1) you must have a good reason for believing it, and (2) it must actually be true.

For example, if I have a feeling that my lottery ticket is going to win, and then I win some money, that is generally not considered knowledge, because I had no real reason to believe it except a whim, which is not strong evidence.

Likewise, if I believe that the sun will rise tomorrow and then it doesn't, I did not have knowledge, because while I had good reason to think that it would, this turned out not to be true.

If, however, I believe that the sun will rise tomorrow and then it does, then I am regarded as having had knowledge, because I believed that the sun would rise, I had good reason to believe that it would (because it does so every day), and my belief was true. That is knowledge.

Wow. That question is very deep. The dictionary defines it as simply: acquaintance with facts, truths, or principles, as from study or investigation.
I honestly have never asked myself that, I would say that it's a reward and source accomplishment; for it is a challenge to gain knowledge. There could be many things that define it.
What do you think Knowledge is?
