they are becoming extinct
They are beautiful
they help control the number of their species so they don't become over populated

My 3 reasons:
They've become a symbol for modern conservationism; if the tigers die out, many people might just give up on saving other species.

Secondly, we created the mess the tigers are in -- it's our responsibility to get them out of it.

And, of course, they are indeed beautiful creatures. It would be a huge tragedy if we lost them now.



However, in the grand scheme that is biodiversity, the tigers don't figure that much. They're too high up in the food chain to make enough of a difference. The ecosystem as we know it would not be hugely affected by the loss of the tigers.

A better question is why should ANYTHING be protected. Diversity is the spice of life, just because something doesn't directly benefit you, there is no reason to kill it off, or watch or stand idly by while someone else kills it off.

My three reasons?

Diversity.
Fairness.
Intelligence.
