I have my own wireless internet transmitter that transmits at 802.11b and I picked up someone else's at 802.11g. It was SOO much faster. How can I get my own without stealing their signal. There's isn't that strong I have to go outside to pick it up.

802.11b and 802.11g will not show much of a difference when it comes to browsing the internet. The speed difference you are experiencing when connected to the 11g connection is probably because that person's internet connection is at a much higher bandwidth like 2Gb line or something.

What some of the other answers have mentioned is correct. 802.11b/g is already much faster than any available broadband bandwidth available for the average consumer and therefore, when you're connected to your neighbour's connection, you can experience the speed even though you're running 11b. Vice versa, if you have subscribed to a higher bandwidth, even though you're running 11b, you'd still experience faster browsing speeds and a neighbour with 11g will only experience as fast a speed as you do.

Replace your wireless router or access point with an 802.11g model.

But keep in mind that it may not be your wireless that's limiting your speed. If you have a 768k connection and they have a 6.0 mbit connection, your throughput on your 802.11b setup would not be any better on 802.11g.

it shouldnt be that much faster unless u have over a 5mb line ... chek ur own settings ... and u need to physically have a new router that transmits g ... its more likely ur internet service thats slower imo ...
