The first answerer is a jerk. Yes, we russians (soviet in my case) are white because we originate from slavic peoples in the caucasus mountains.

However, Russia is classified as a European nation because: It was established in Europe (before it expanded into Asia) Its culture is Eastern European Its history is closer to Europe's than Asia's (for example, it has had more interactions with other European countries, rather than Asian countries) Russian people are Slavic, generally speaking, and NOT AT ALL "Asiatic", in racial background.

But I guess they are considered white in the U.S.

In general, yes. However, Russia is a big country and likely includes several ethic groups. My guess is that some of those groups might identify as Asian.
