To answer this question we first have to consider the circumstances and criteria used to label someone a genius. If a person, as yourself, proclaims themselves a genius, not many others will agree with such a label unless they can be convinced of this claim by the claimant presenting his/her evidence or facts or arguments in favour of the claim. So, the first issue is whether the criteria for being regarded a genius require others to make such pronouncements.

The second issue would be to establish the credentials of those judges themselves in order to find out if they have the capacity or authority to judge on such issues for us. Do we require genius to discover or pronounce genius in others? Would we trust gullible ordinary people to decide for us whom of us are to be labelled as genius and whom not?

The third issue is the criteria itself used to judge someone a genius; i.e. what qualities does a genius possess, and how much of these qualities are required for us to label them genius? If we take intelligence as such criteria, how do we measure it and at what level does it represent genius? So, are all people above a certain degree of measurable intelligence automatically a genius? Is measurable intelligence uniquely tied to genius, or are there other criteria that qualify for the label, such as creativity, and how do we measure it?

So, we have discussed two ways of determining how we might come to label someone a genius; first: authority; second: intelligence measuring. Yet we can argue that both these methods are lacking, as, firstly, the people or persons in the position to grant others such a distinction of being declared a genius themselves may not posses the qualities required to recognise genius in others, or they may have motives which might make their judgements suspect.

Secondly, our methods of intelligence measuring have come under a lot of scrutiny lately as they have been accused of measuring a western standard bias type of intelligence, based on rational or logical abilities applied to western scenarios or problems that might not reflect the conditions or tradition of other cultures. It is argued that other cultures promote different qualities in their communities which these tests are not designed to measure. Therefore a genius in Oxford might be the village idiot in some island culture, while an island genius (within their criteria based on their traditions and circumstances) will seem dull and pitiful in the academic environment of Oxford.

We still can decide that those people that have become famous over time as many reputable people in the same field as those that are pronounced genius have repeatedly alluded to their influence in their field and have shown why their contribution have such weight in the history and future of their field , are indeed genius. This would leave us only those that have reached a certain level of fame as our criteria, and this will include all types of geniuses, such as artists, composers, politicians, craftsmen, sports stars, etc.

This still feels not quite right. Do we really label Justin Timberlake a genius? Maybe we should allow enough time to pass, lets say 10 or 20 years, and see who is still regarded with respect. So we could say those that capture the human imagination, even long after their first rise to fame, can be regarded as genius. This may happen post mortem, as their work or influence are only uncovered or appreciated after their departure, such as Van Gogh.

So, if this seems the most failsafe way of judging genius, then genius is neither born, nor created, but recognised through history (although the seeds and actions were planted long before recognition).

Must be some-thing they were born with. Some of us are born with-out certain attributes, while at the same time born with other particular attributes. All of us have our one talents ; some are blessed with one talent, others blessed with ten or more. Each talent may be different. By the way, it may be difficult to identify geniuses. A genius may be sitting next to you , and you may not know that he/ she is a genius. There are cases where geniuses are mistaken for under-achievers. An interesting children's book is : Mathilda by Roald Dahyl.

99% perspiration
1% inspiration
The brain is a piece of equipment that can run quicker, deal with more input from varied sources and break down problems easier if it is trained, works hard and keeps on pushing itself.
If it sits around all day looking at dumb web-sites or does a repeptitive job which requires no mental effort it will go soft and stop working so well.
If it is constantly challenged, stretched and filled up with ideas and information it could work so well that people might say it was the brain of a genius.
So if you are born with a brain you can create a geniius.

Intelligence is not genetics although genetics do not harm. i'd be basic, i'm a member of MENSA, so are my little ones, my mom on the different hand, she wasted her concepts on crack cocaine. That being reported surroundings, risk, and what you do with your mind/body are all factors at the same time as it contains intelligence. with the help of ways, you could improve your IQ 20points purely with the help of taking an IQ attempt extra then once, each and every time you're taking the attempt you study something, as a effect making your IQ higher, it really is not any longer the meditation. you also favor to guage that the IQ attempt does no longer degree intelligence contained in the way maximum assume it does, the IQ attempt can no longer make sure such issues as creativity. such issues as having English as a 2d language, or having a actual mission/ speech mission may reason faulty IQ checks. Edit: "no longer to be impolite or advise" yet you probably did no longer have a question you've an opinion that you shaped by something resembling voodoo interior the type of a question.

Potential geniuses are born, but actual ones are created.

I think geniuses are pretty much born geniuses. However, the key is in nourishing those "genius cells" and allowing the person to expand his horizons to become more knowledgeful and "smart." It's pretty much a combo of both, I do believe.

The definition of a genius is someone who can take a complicated problem and solve it with a simple solution

A genius by definition is not someone with a vast wealth of knowledge nor are they someone who can solve every problem they ever confront.

A genius by definition is not someone who boasts of it or takes their title to heart. Likewise a genius cannot be tested as such; tests such as MENSA test your mental ability in terms of a mental age and devise an IQ in relation to your age group, such does not make you a genius.

We are born. :) Unfortunately, with out the proper teachers within life's circle, some of the most brilliant people go unnoticed and wrote off as ignorant, or stupid. These people are so far ahead of our time, as threw out life's history, they cannot be communicated with until we catch up with them. Prodigies to man with extraordinaire mentality are blessed. How many actually get by us, because we don't understand their gifts?
