Okay, so I've been playing with a Squier for about a year so far. (It's actually a pretty good one, btw) and I'm thinking about getting a Les Paul. But, the real Gibson ones are too expensive for me. Does Anyone have any good brand names for a Les Paul? (And I'm looking for something besides an Epiphone.) Thanks.

If a true Gibson is too expensive for you, I would NOT recommend going with an epiphone.

Rather, check out ESP. I would normally recommend PRS but they tend to be in the same price range as Gibson.

A decent ESP is more within your price range. It is a quality instrument, and you'll get plenty of punch with them. They are as versatile as the Les Paul, and you can find them in the Les Paul body shape as well.

Check out www.samash.com Im sure you can find what you are looking for.

Don't be afraid to shop around online...and print out the lowest price quote. Most places will meet or beat the price quote.

Best of Luck

Well I have been around guitarist for ALL my life, and I will say that if you truly can't afford a real Gibson, then and Epiphone is the next best Les Paul. However if you really don't want one then this might help.

Check out a Drive brand guitar, the one that has humbucker pickups, it does not look like a Les Paul but is sound like one. It would be a small step up from a Squire. I also HIGHLY suggest a Carvin guitar. You can design your one or order one. They make really good copys.
Also check out Washburns copys, some of them are good.
Hope this helps you out man!!!Good luck and happy hunting!!!

I lucked into having a Les Paul-copy custom built for me. It's similar to a '58 Standard but has a narrow '60s era neck. If you don't want to get the Epiphone I would suggest Carvin, ESP, Schecter or Dean. Washburn also makes a single-cut model called "Idol" that is supposed to rock...don't know, never played one. I also own a Fernandez Monterey. You can custom order the Carvin to your specs and no, my customisn't a Carvin. If your looking for the Les Paul body style, then you're out of luck with Schecter, but the tone is so damn close. Best of luck and happy hunting.
