I guess it really depends on the company but many will find it beneficial to network their computers.

- Software updates can be pushed to the systems
- Communication tools
- Server based applications
- Data stored on server rather than client systems
- Access to company resources (HR, policies, forms, etc...)
- External web access for a variety of reasons including vendor support sites, web help sites, code examples, etc...
- VoIP

Each company's needs will be different but most companies that have computers will find some benefit of having a network and being connected to the Internet.

How could a company survive without a network? I have a network at my home even. A network is just two or more computers hooked together. If you have more than two employees and they want to access the internet... oh, well you should have a network. If you want your company to send out emails and not have every one of your employees need to signup for free yahoo accounts, well then you need a network. If you have lots of people different computers, then you need to setup using a network to say which people can access which computers. If you have files that everyone needs to change, read, install, etc, then a network is for you. If you have one printer and want everyone to be able to print off of it, then a network is for you!
The questions these days is what is left in the business enviorment that doesn't require a network. In fact most buisnesses could be ran from home using a big network called the internet.
